My Story

Why Scentsy? I'll just be honest here.  I joined Scentsy for the money on August 27, 2007.  A little more than a year prior to that, my college roommate and good friend called me, after a long period of no contact, to tell me about this wickless candle.  Being pursued by a director marketer was about as appealing to me as a pap smear.  I'm so glad it wasn't a Skype call 'cause she would have seen my eyes rolling back in my head and my finger plunging down my throat. Ironically,  I had just quit burning candles in my home due to an article in Prevention Magazine on the ill health effects of burning candles, especially for folks with lung conditions such as COPD and asthma,  coupled with the recent actions of my youngest of two sons involving a flaming tissue and burned carpet.Over the next year, my friend kept sharing and I kept declining to join.  Finally, I realized that my family's less than healthy financial situation was not just an acute situation, but one that was chronic.  I had a fantastic part-time job that paid well and provided medical/dental benefits for my family.  I could work extra hours here and there, but there was a ceiling that was too low for what we needed to accomplish financially.  One more perfectly timed phone call from my friend made me take the Scentsy opportunity serious. I could see that Scentsy had so much potential.  I loved the product. It was that moment that I realized others would too. My negative perception of direct marketing was what I had to overcome and I did this by researching pyramids and network marketing and learning that Scentsy was indeed very different.  ALSO, I could do this along with my current job.Once on board I had to address my distaste for the party planning format.  Because I didn't like the idea and it didn't sound fun to me, I never attended a Mary Kay party, a Tupperware party, a Pampered Chef party, etc.  While it was and still is my nature and preference to be more isolated than social, Scentsy was too simple. By the way, I shared the idea of joining with my friends and co-workers.  Know what they said?  "Well, we don't really see you doing this, but we'll support you if you decide to." My friend joined me in Denver to help launch my new Scentsy business.  That was the beginning of a two-year deal I made with myself.  If I didn't like where I was or where I was going in that period of time, I would quit. As I knock on the door of the highest rank achievement, SUPER STAR DIRECTOR of Team Sellers & Smellers, I am so grateful for my friend's relentless pursuit that finally made me take a leap of faith.  Just do it! Patti Bippus
